why I write notes

notes are not posts. posts are finished moments — a trip, a frame, something I’ve decided is done. notes are the working notebook. they’re allowed to be half-formed, contradictory, or just a thing I noticed and wanted to write down before I forgot it.

case studies are receipts. they’re the “here’s what I built and what I learned” format. they take time to write well. notes don’t have that constraint. a note can be three sentences and a question mark.

the distinction matters because it changes what I’m willing to write. if everything has to be a finished essay, I write less. the notes section is permission to think in public without the pressure of having a point.

it’s OK if a note never gets refined. that’s the whole idea.
